U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was caught vacationing while Texas freezes.
This week, the Lone Star State has been pushed to its breaking point. On Wednesday, one of its two GOP senators hopped on a Cancún-bound plane to get away from it all, earning him a new nickname: “Flyin’ Ted.”
Cancún s forecast called for a high of 84 degrees Wednesday. Meanwhile, below-freezing temperatures punished millions of Texans who had already spent much of the week facing rolling blackouts and now confront boil water orders because of record-setting back-to-back winter storms.

After Cruz was pictured on a Mexico-bound plane, the chorus calling for his ouster rose to a shout. Critics say it was one thing for him to lie about the results of the 2020 presidential election, which some believe helped to inspire the Jan. 6 insurrection. O’Rourke’s enthusiasm has earned him considerable clout over the years, but following a string of recent failures, critics have accused him of prioritizing style over substance.
The former U.S. representative quickly became a liberal darling when he ran against incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018, but lost. Later, he also failed to secure the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
As chaos descended on the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, many Texans condemned Sen. Ted Cruz for spearheading the effort to overturn the results of the presidential election, with some demanding his resignation.
Cruz led 11 Republican senators in a plan to object to the certification of the election results, earning the group the nicknames “sedition caucus” and “dirty dozen.”
Despite top election officials calling the Nov. 3 election “the most secure in American history,” Cruz argued against a peaceful transition of power in front of Congress during Wednesday s certification ceremony. Why? Because many Americans “believe” the election was rigged.
Minutes later, President Donald Trump’s supporters invaded the Capitol building.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton became the target of national derision after he filed a “frivolous” lawsuit to overturn the presidential election earlier this month. He’s also the subject of a whistleblower complaint and is under FBI investigation, according to AP News.
Now, the state’s Democrats are gunning for Texas’ top lawyer.
Thursday, the Boot Texas Republicans Political Action Committee launched a campaign that is dead set on kicking Paxton out of office. Treasurer Zack Malitz said the PAC is raising money to aid Democratic efforts against the attorney general when he’s up for reelection in 2022.
