These would capture Carbon Dioxide where fossil fuels are burned and pipe it under the sea to store it. Climate campaigners fear it is a tactic to keep the Fossil Fuel Industry in business. The Prime Minister on a visit to aberdeenshire argued todays announcements would help the uk reach its net zero target by 2050 while still backing new oil and gas. Even in 2050, when we are at net zero, it is forecast that around a quarter of our energy needs will still come from oil and gas. Thats why technologies like Carbon Capture and storage are important.
