Round 6 of the AFLW season has been released – the highlight of which is a blockbuster clash between Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs at Victoria Park on Sunday.
For several other teams, this is just about the last roll of the dice, with the Giants’ finals hopes hinging on a tough home clash with the Brisbane Lions in what will be the first AFL or AFLW match to be played in Canberra since August 2019.
St Kilda’s finals aspirations will also go on the line when they face Melbourne at Casey Fields, while we will have our first return clash in AFLW history when the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle contest the second Western Derby of the season, to be played with fans in attendance.
The Dockers record their first loss since the 2019 season after going down by 11 points at home to the Brisbane Lions, while the Bulldogs and Kangaroos post comfortable victories.

Fremantle s record 11-match AFLW winning streak is over following an upset loss to the Brisbane Lions.
Key points:
The Lions triumphed 3.7 (25) to 1.8 (14) over the Dockers in Fremantle
The Bulldogs beat the Giants by 25 points for their fourth straight win of the season
The Kangaroos scored a 9.5 (59) to 6.1 (37) victory over Carlton
The Dockers first goal of Saturday s match did not come until deep in the final quarter, when Roxy Roux s 45-metre set shot reduced the Lions lead to five points with 90 seconds remaining.
Victoria’s lockdown 3.0 did not stop the AFLW competition from forging ahead.
This week interstate games went ahead in front of crowds whilst Victorian clubs played other Victorian clubs behind closed doors.
The Chicks Talking Footy team retreated to their loungerooms to review Round 3. We discuss the gap emerging between the established and expansion clubs across the competition. Western Bulldogs star Bonnie Toogood jumped on the line to have a chat with us about the season so far and what it means to play in Pride Round.

Melbourne vs North Melbourne
I’ve watched most AFLW matches since the competition started, and the Melbourne versus North Melbourne clash was almost certainly the best display of skill the competition had yet put on.
A lot of the credit here has to go to the coaches.
Traditionally in the AFLW (or the AFL, for that matter) when a coach finds him or herself on the receiving end of a shellacking, as North did in the second quarter, they put extra players behind the play, curl up into a defensive ball and try to make the game as ugly as possible.
