mmaroney@sungazette.com Just as vaccines are getting into arms, so is the expected stimulus money in the American Rescue Plan, part of the $1.9 trillion stimulus signed by President Joe Biden to assist communities recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Derek Slaughter said this week the city is slated to receive up to $25.8 million in stimulus. He said he was unclear on the exact terms and obligations but said it may arrive in two separate installments, the first of which could arrive by mid-May. A city consulting firm representative also previewed the upbeat update recently for council’s finance committee.

Memorial Avenue site to get sprucing up | News, Sports, Jobs - Williamsport Sun-Gazette

KAREN VIBERT-KENNEDY/Sun-Gazette Lose Park in Williamsport on Thursday morning. City Council authorized a contract for about $31,655 with Larson Design Group for a design for Lose Park, a planned project with $395,000 of investment for improvements to the park along Memorial Avenue. The project and improvements will be paid for through the city obtaining a $145,000 grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and use of prior year Community Development Block Grant of $250,000, said Skip Memmi, city director of economic and community development. Improvements are expected at the basketball court. Trees will be planted and seating will be put around a pavilion. Access to the park from Memorial Avenue will be improved. Drawings of the improvements are expected to be provided soon to the public works committee, said Councilwoman Bonnie Katz.

Access fees added for use of city brush pile | News, Sports, Jobs

mmaroney@sungazette.com City Council on first reading decided to add annual fees to access the brush/mulch pile. It is part of a plan to make residents and others purchase an access “key” card to get into the locked gate. Chris Cooley, who works for River Valley Transit, said the fees are needed to issue the cards to enter the brush disposal and mulch collection area at 1500 W. Third St. Cooley said the information will be put online so people can review it and download the forms from the city website or go to River Valley Transit headquarters to pick up a form to begin the process.
