B C Covid update Friday: 508 new cases, 72 variant cases

25 Northern Health Dr. Gustafson reported 72 cases of variants in B.C.: 52 of the United Kingdom variant (B117) and 20 of the South African (B1351). There are 4,486 active cases in B.C., with 217 people in hospital and 61 in critical or intensive care. Currently 7,699 people are being actively monitored for the virus due to exposure, and 69,970 people who had COVID-19 are considered fully recovered. There is one new health care outbreak at Florentine long term care in Interior Health (Merritt). == ·         The Florentine in Merritt has one resident case. ·         Carrington Place in Vernon has two cases: one resident and one staff. ·         Highridge/Singh House group home in Kamloops has 13 cases: five residents and eight staff.

COVID-19 update: B C reports 11 deaths, 624 cases in final update of the week

  VANCOUVER B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix announced on Twitter Friday that there had been 11 more deaths from COVID-19 and 624 additional cases of the disease confirmed over the last 24 hours. We pass on our deepest condolences to their families, friends, caregivers and communities. Today we think of them; we think of their loss; and we grieve with them, the health minister said. Nearly an hour after Dix s tweet, the Ministry of Health issued the official written statement from Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry that contained all of Friday s COVID-19 numbers. There are currently 9,978 active cases of the coronavirus in B.C., the health officials said in their statement. Of that total, 356 people are in hospital, 92 of them in intensive care.
