New provincial police commissioner Major-General Nomthetheleli Mene took over the reins of the police department effective from December 1. Mene replaces Lt-Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, who left the post in September to take over as deputy national commissioner for crime prevention. Mene was born and bred in the Sarah Baartman district in Humansdorp.
Frustrated BCM residents have expressed concern that they have not received their municipal bills for several months. The metro’s online billing system is also not working. Buffalo City Metro has nominated several council members to the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) to help the council account and ensure efficient and effective use of municipal resources. Councillor Yomelela Tyali was appointed as chair for the next five years, with the term ending in 2026.
