It wasn’t really the best of derbies nor was it the worst of derbies between the Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas

The Houston Dynamo followed up their draw with LAFC with another draw – this time with their in-state rivals, FC Dallas in the first game of the Texas Derby at Toyota Stadium. The game was a little mild by rivalry standards with both sides looking to improve on their 1-1-1 records at the time without conceding more goals. Without being too cliché, overall the game did have the “tale of two halves” narrative going for it. FC Dallas were clearly the winners of the first and Houston the winners of the second. Of course that means very little when both sides were level after the conclusion of both halves. Dynamo fans may have wanted a little more than just a point against a rival, but considering the next two games of the derby take place at BBVA Stadium,
“I think every player that was in MLS and went down there has the same thought: It’s not easy to go from a lower league back up to the higher league here in the United States,” Pasher said. “It’s one of those where I just kind of said, ‘Well, if it happens, great. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.’ So I just wanted to put my best foot foot forward because I had nothing to lose.”
In the second season under former U.S. national team coach Tab Ramos, Houston has nowhere to go but up after finishing last in the Western Conference in 2020. The Dynamo won just four matches and gave up 40 goals last year.

2021 Dynamo Position Groups: Midfielders
We take a look at the “personality types” of the Dynamo midfielders.

The Dynamo midfield was pretty
meh during the 2020 season. Besides Memo Rodríguez (5 G / 2 A), no one really contributed in the penalty area. Matias Vera, Darwin Cerén and Boniek García combined for only 1 goal and 2 assists. That’s a goal or an assist every 1,348 minutes, or every 15 games. Midfielders’ only job isn’t to directly contribute to goals, but it is an important part. Midfielders need to be able to defend, press, progress the ball, dribble etc. A majority of teams play with 2 – 4 midfielders at a time and each midfield will have a different tactical role based on their skillset.
