If you are a postmenopausal woman over 50, straighten up. You have a 1 out of 2 risk of fracturing a bone before you die.
“This is a major public health concern which the U.S. spends multiple billions of dollars on,” said Oxford’s Rick Pope, who won the Connecticut physician assistant of the year award in 2020, and has spent 30 years treating osteoporosis. “But most of the time, it’s ignored.”
In fact, when a middle-age or older patient is hospitalized for a fracture, 75% of the time the patients themselves are not evaluated or treated for osteoporosis.
