The shift by former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto to his fierce critic William Ruto s camp on Friday marked the heightened re-alignment linked to the fight for political survival as the 2022 General Election nears.
Friday s move by Isaac, a point man of the BBI campaigns in Rift Valley region, is reminiscent of past elections where top leaders sought refuge in parties perceived to be dominant in their regions to make a return to mainstream politics.
The former governor, in his speech, made no secret of the fact that he was making a strategic move to preserve his political ambition even though he said it was informed by a desire to unite the Kalenjin community .

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, a longtime critic of Deputy President William on Friday, January 15, welcomed the DP to the county in an event attended by residents.
During the event, DP Ruto welcomed the ex-governor to join his team and in the event gifted him a wheelbarrow. I have come with Isaac Ruto, the man whose party symbol is gumboots. Today we will give him a Wheelbarrow, then he disassociates himself with gumboots, the DP stated.

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto, yesterday appeared in a function attended by the country’s second-in-command and pledged to support his 2022 presidential bid.
Isaac, the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader, has been drumming up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and was among the initiative’s pointmen in the wider Rift Valley region.
In November, he was among party leaders who attended the official launch of the BBI Bill signature collection drive at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
The Deputy President, who has been lukewarm about the initiative birthed by the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in March 2018, was absent at the function.
