larger plot. i ve spent a lot of time in the middle east with some experts on bomb making, and the city of nablus where a lot of bomb makers are trained, 40% of them have accidents when making explosives, so i can t get my arms around a couple who is making explosive devices in their garage and were successful enough to not have an accident and make a mistake. that s another component here. i think again another very important key to this investigation is did they have help, were there resources was there intelligence, were they financed? how large does the scope of this plot? and finally, because you ve done so much extensive research on foreign fighter recruitment, from what you know from the facts out there, are these the type of people who are susceptible to recruitment, to recruitment from terror groups? well, this certainly is going to be a slight aberration of what we ve seen. i will say this. the group of people that are
inventory lists of the stuff that s been seized, there was a lot of equipment in there whether it was accessories for weapons, you know, where did they get all this stuff? who helped them get the gun powder for the explosives and helped them put those things together? there had to be some other support system and that s what they will find on these cell phones and hard drives. i assume also it s not just who they are communicating with but the websites they are visiting and information they are downloading, are they learning about bomb-making from something online or is it if they haven t done that, does that mean it was somebody face-to-face teaching them? that s abosolutely right. where are they getting the information, where with all to construct the devices and we re talking all along since this occurred, what was the motivation or how were they radicalized and if they are
very troubling and are going to be studied closely in the coming days and weeks. senator, are you significaug perhaps she was sent here is there any indication she was actually sent to the united states to do what she did? wolf, there is no evidence to that effect direct evidence but the circumstances are very, very suspicious where she gets hooked up through either the internet or the travel that this gentleman took and comes over here as his fiancee and slightly a year later, this unfolds. it doesn t take much of an imagination to think if you had people that wanted to do this, that they could train her in bomb making and a paris-type attack and get her hooked up with a type b personality
anything. and what we re hearing now from the media, i m just saying from an objective perspective, has been very tenuous. so that s any feeling. i don t feel like we ought to be overzealous in our characterization of the events until we have additional evidence. these were family members in the home, a brother, sister. in what home? the suspect s. did they ever see any evidence of what s been described by police, bomb making, large caches of weapons? the family members knew he had two hand guns and kept them locked up and that he was licensed for them. the family members would have get togethers on occasion, but they wouldn t be going through his house. this was a brother they had no idea something like this could happen. there was never anything like there was any any evidence of any of these pipe
of how much planning went into it. you re in front of the home and authorities are saying there was a room or a space in that home dedicated to bomb-making, an arsenal room. reporter: yeah, this was a bomb-making factory, as it s described, back in the garage behind here. so, it s sort of closed off here. you can see where the fbi went through and the local police went through with their armored vehicle pushing through first the door and then through the window. but when they got inside, after they realized there were no booby traps and went in, they went into the back in the garage, not only did they find 12 pipe bombs, but they also found enough material for building even more, as if it were an ongoing enterprise. and then more than 4,500 rounds of ammunition inside. so, this was clearly something that was all part of an ongoing, bigger operation. and you know, that doesn t really take too much thought to put it all together. the question is, with the 12 bombs that were still here
