College 620x284 A PLEDGE of support has been given for a £30m healthcare college in the grounds of Royal Bolton Hospital after its development was ‘paused’ due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Bolton College of Medical Sciences (BCMS), which was granted planning permission at the Barnes Drive site in 2019, was planning to begin welcoming students in 2022. It was set to be the first such education centre in the UK and had aspirations to provide training across many disciplines, professions and agencies related to healthcare. But last month a joint statement from The University of Bolton and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said the development ‘has been paused due to the unprecedented challenges of Covid-19’.
Bolton Food partners with Oxfam to formulate human rights standards for its seafood supply chain

Milan, Italy-based Bolton Food has announced a partnership with the nonprofit Oxfam International on a project to improve human rights standards in the global tuna supply chain.
Bolton, which purchased Washington, U.S.A.-based tuna firm Tri Marine in July 2019, and which operates the Rio Mare, Saupiquet, ISABEL, and Cuca tuna brands in Europe, said it will work with Oxfam to form a process to evaluate, review, and implement standards of for human rights throughout its supply chain.
Oxford, England-based Oxfam is a group of 20 independent charitable organizations focused on the alleviation of global poverty. Bolton will work with Oxfam to create new standards of corporate social sustainability for its fishing operations, which will be scalable to the broader fishing industry globally.
