Before 2020, the average annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for Africa consistently outperformed the global average and was estimated to grow by at least six per cent annually until 2023.
As one of the fastest-growing economies, Africa’s economic growth is primarily due to its sizeable working-age population of about 1.2 billion people and growing consumer markets in the region.
According to the World Economic Forum, “Africa – the youngest region globally, will be the source of most global labour-force growth.”
It is projected that half of Africa’s population will be under 25 years old by 2050. The implication of this is the availability of labour to enhance productivity, sustain the economic boom, and reduce poverty.
It will attract similar rates as the Bolt Base category, with a minimum fare of Sh 300. Passengers will be able to choose the new ride-type when they order a car in the Bolt app at no extra cost.
“We continue to scale up our operations for the benefit of our customers and the communities in which we operate. Having electric and hybrid vehicles on our platform is a step towards ensuring environmentally conscious ways for people to move around in the city and reduce our ecological footprint,” Country manager Ola Akinnusi said.

Bolt Green is currently available to Bolt customers in Nairobi with plans to expand to more cities soon. Bolt Green forms part of the company’s global environmental strategy called ‘Green Plan’ meant to reduce its environmental footprint through carbon offsetting and by bringing scooters, electric cars and other environmentally friendly transport options for people to move in cities.
Bolt launches electric & hybrid cars category on its platform to promote environmental conservation
Bolt has introduced a new ride category on its platform, dubbed
Bolt Green, which offers eco-friendly rides. The category will have hybrid and electric cars to reduce emissions during trips taken on the Bolt platform, offering greener transport options. It will attract similar rates as the Bolt Base category, with a minimum fare of Ksh. 300.

The new category also aims at expanding Bolts ride options thereby creating more economic opportunities for drivers and providing passengers with more options to choose from,” said Ola Akinnusi, Country Manager at Bolt.
