FURNISS Family Butchers in Bolling Road, Ben Rhydding is celebrating 35 years in business this week. Established in 1986, Carole and Stephen Furniss are assisted in running the family butchers by son John, grandson Ben and staff members Marcus, Helen and Dan. Carole said: “Things have changed so much over the years, but one thing remains the same, our loyal customers, we wouldn’t still be going strong if it weren’t for them and our fantastic team. “Thank you all and may we continue to serve you for the next 35 years.” Furniss Butchers offers quality local produce and Yorkshire meat, along with award winning pies and hot and cold sandwiches, and pride themselves in giving a friendly and traditional service.
THANKS to sponsorship by its members and the community, a local church will be illuminated for three weeks over the Christmas. From 4pm -10pm each evening until January 3 part of St. John’s Ben Rhydding will be swathed in a festive glow of colour. The low key switch on event in early December illuminated the church tower, the west window, the windows on Bolling Road and the trees in the garden. For many years Christingle services on Christmas Eve have seen every pew occupied at St. John’s. For many families, visitors and the local community the Christingle service marked the start of their celebrations. It also raised money for the Children’s Society. This year the service will be online. With sponsorship at £10 for each evening of light, more than enough was raised for the illumination, with the extra money added to Children’s Society donations.
