3 killed, 2 injured in cattle raid in Awerial County
At least three people were killed and two others wounded during a cattle raid in Awerial County of Lakes State over the weekend, local officials said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the chief inspector of police in Awerial County, Bol Tier, said the attackers who killed three people and wounded two others are suspected to be from Yirol West County.
“It was on Saturday 13 March when the armed youth from Atuot community of Yirol County came in and attempted to raid cows in a place called Mat-bar cattle camp. They were intercepted by the cattle owners resulting in clashes. Three people were killed and two wounded from among the Aliap cattle owners and no cows were taken by the raiders,” said Tier.
7 killed, 6 wounded in Terekeka attack
Authorities in Terekeka County of Central Equatoria State say about seven people were killed and six others wounded when armed youth from Lakes s State Awerial County attacked Lor-ja village of Terekeka on Sunday morning.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Terekeka County Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Akhol Ayuong said five people from Terekeka were killed, four wounded while the attackers lost two people and two others were wounded.
The police official confirmed that no cattle were stolen from the Pajo-owa cattle camp in Lor-ja. The cattle camp owners have recovered all their cattle except those cows which were killed in crossfire during the clashes between Awerial youth raiders and Terekeka cattle owners, Ayuong added.
Foreigner killed, military car knocks wrestler dead in Lakes
SSPDF soldiers traveling from the direction of Yirol on two Land Cruiser Pickup trucks on Tuesday night knocked dead a renowned wrestler called Bunlong Aguat in Awerial, took his gun and continued on their journey before they were intercepted by the police in Mingkaman town of Lakes State, leading to a firefight.
The Chief Inspector of Police in Awerial County, Bol Tier, told Radio Tamazuj that on Wednesday they were called and told that a vehicle was involved in a hit and run and the police decided to intercept it at midnight when they arrived Mingkaman town, but instead, the occupants opened fire on the police.
Pentecostal Bishop killed in Awerial County
Police in Awerial and Terekeka Counties of Lakes and Central Equatoria States confirmed the killing of a Pentecostal church Bishop, Garang Aciek Ayuel, in the Ardep area by armed robbers.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the police commissioner of Terekeka County, Major General Akol Ayuong, said the Pentecostal church Bishop was killed while he was travelling from Juba to Gulyar to celebrate Christmas. When the incident occurred, I managed to send the police but unfortunately we found out that he was killed and the criminals managed to escape into the bushes. There is no suspect arrested and it is difficult to trace their hideout in the bushes,” Gen. Akol said.
SSPDF driver knocks rider dead in Awerial County
A South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF) driver attached to General Marial Chanuong Yel knocked and killed a motorcycle taxi rider, commonly known as boda-boda, in Awerial County of Lakes State last Saturday, police say.
The chief inspector of police in Awerial County, Bol Tier, told Radio Tamazuj that the police arrested the military driver the same day. We have managed to detain the driver of the vehicle and he is now in police custody in Gulyar, and the investigation is going on, Tier said.
He confirmed that the vehicle which knocked and killed the boda-boda rider belonged to Gen. Marial Chanuong and was transporting goods from Kal-thok to Gulyar.
