Four members of the Lansing City Council late Monday night sent a photographed of a letter to Mayor Andy Schor announcing their intentions to reject a proposal to reject a bid to purchase the former Masonic Temple and turn it into a new city hall.
LANSING — Electricity still runs throughout the century-old building’s seven stories, illuminating the lime green carpets and elegant ballrooms as if they haven’t sat vacant for over a decade.
A former office building which has fallen into disrepair was pushed as a potential site for a new City Hall. Instead, either the city or developers will tear it down.
Lansing has more than its share of abandoned legacy buildings, from empty schools to old factories and cavernous K-Marts, but the 1924 Masonic Temple building at 217 S. Capitol Ave. downtown is in a class by itself.
