FREMONT - With a little help from his neighbor, a 92-year-old World War II veteran is now able to fly his American flag for the Memorial Day weekend and beyond.
Bobby Rhea s flagpole was knocked out of commission when a tree-trimming company inadvertently clipped the rope and sent the flag falling.
Bobby and his wife Violetta got a helping hand from their neighbor, Mike Hoffman, who fixed the rope and the flagpole so the Rheas Stars and Stripes could fly high once again.
Why the neighbor helped the World War II veteran
“I figured out a way I was going to try so I went out and bought all this stuff and just surprised him by putting it up there,” Hoffman said. “It was nice. We ve been neighbors for a long time and it was just nice to do something that I knew they would appreciate.”
