up a press conference in his office here at the capitol on the last day of a legislative session. he said that he did not like the bill leading up to the vote. this would establish for casinos including chicago casinos and slot machines at airports and racetracks. the governor is concerned about an expansion of these areas for gambling and he would use his pen to veto anything that to be excessive. i think it s important that i look at it line by line and the people of illinois should have an opportunity to see every provision including some of us looked at the last minute to make sure that this is in the public interest. we know it s in the gambler s interest. the governor will have most of the summer before he actually has to act on the bill and he will invite hearing from all sides. he will be in chicago tomorrow for that civil unions ceremony in millennium park. same-sex couples lined up early today to apply for the state s first-ever civil unions licenses nancy is at

it weaved through chicago. people stand along the route to show their support. thousands of firefighters came from across north america to pay their respects. one group drove in a blizzard from boston. another came from canada. when a tragedy like this happens, doesn t matter where it is, in the fire service, we are a huge family. a loss is felt nationwide. most pay forward. most of these guys come out when we have tragedies in our area. reporter: ed stringer was a veteran of the chicago fire department known for being the first to run in a burning building, the last to come out. he told his daughter he wasn t a hero, just doing his job. that would be debated today. a sea of uniforms solemnly waited for their brother at the hall chapel. his mother and two adult children too distraught to talk had a fellow firefighter read a letter of thanks. weld like personnel who worked feverishly to extricate my son. we lean on each other in times of trouble. and a time of gr
it turned out to be a coyote and it turns out he is nicknamed holly. she had jumped off the ice. it looked like she was actually trying to swim back to shore, but it was about a quarter of a mile out. tom skilling tells me the water temperature now in lake michigan is 33 degrees. that is much too far, much to cold to make it all the way back. 10:30, she got on to another ice flow. by that time the rescue operation was in full gearment animal care and control was assisted by the chicago fire department. they brought out the big tire boat from belmont harbor to snare holly, the coyote who was after more than an hour in the water still hanging in there. and wide open, i think about three or four knots all you re going to get out of that boat. it is very powerful, but not a fast vessel. we all watched and cheered it on. the helicopter marked the spot where the coyote was floating. at one point he tried to make a swim to shore and then he found another ice flow and got back on a
honeyshooting that left one dead and two wounded. ballistic testing proves it. they released a picture of his pick-up truck which matches the exact description of the vehicle used in the shootings. the evidence, what we do have, tells us that the suspect that was killed in the armed robbery, his information does match the information we had from the previous homicide. reporter: the farmer from lowell, indiana who survived the shooting in october saw his picture on tv and was sure it was the same man. our detectives did speak to mr. dall. he as uni quiff equablydeniably identified him as the honeybee killer. prior to that he lived in grundy county at which time he managed property that had a honeybee farm on. reporter: investigators say they re not 100 % sure he s the so-called honeybee killer. he was shot and killed on saturday with his own weapon. this week, police searched his home. they say it s delap dated with no running water and they found no weapons inside.
