Prince George Free Press » Unity party chooses education over fielding candidates

The BC Unity Party will probably not field candidates in Prince George for the May 17 provincial election, the area’s regional director says. Bob Zayonc, who represents the city’s three ridings, said discussions have yet to be finalized, but the party will likely opt to focus on electoral reform rather than the election. “”We feel that is really the paramount issue coming forward from people,” he said Monday. “We’re still concerned about votes standing for something substantial.” He said polarization on election day is a serious problem, with governments in the province swinging between right and left. He said the party supports the proposed single-transferable vote system put forward by the Citizen’s Assembly on Electoral Reform.
