some of these pastors who have, you know, huge congregations. one very important evangelical in iowa, bob vanderplats said he thinks it s time to move on. he was a very important person for trump in iowa and among conservatives. it s going to be something to watch for these next couple of years really. you know, trump s 2024 campaign is relatively muted. it s been a quiet couple months. any idea why? what is going on here? is that actually harming him or just too early to have much of an impact anyway? there are a few things happening here. president trump announced at a very peculiar time, right after the mid terms and then right before the holidays. you know, thanksgiving, you know, new year s season. these are times where the american people can kind of
was speaking generally, it was not a departure about what he said about other candidates in the past. it was not an attack against donald trump as that new york times headline seems to suggest. team cruz is instead hoping to pivot to good news coming out of iowa, which is an endorsement from bob vanderplats. this endorsement coveted by all. you have bob vanderplaats and steve deace. it is good momentum for cruz as he hopes to make a play for iowa and overtake the current front-runner nationally, donald trump, here in the state. looks like the organization is coming together. i want to check in with francis. she s been monitoring your reaction to our poll question. this is what we re asking in
question, if cruz can consolidate that evangelical vote in iowa, does it have a ripple effect? if he consolidates it, if he wins iowa, does that fold over to south carolina? and what comes after south carolina? on the first of march you have what they re calling the s.e.c. primary, a bunch of southern states with a ton of delegates, states filled with evangelical voters. that s what ted cruz is going for. now you mentioned that big endorsement. really about 15 minutes from now a man named bob vanderplate seeing him there in 2008, next to rick santorum in 2012, known as the evangelical king maker in iowa. he endorsed huckabee in 08. huckabee won. endorsed rick santorum in 2012 when he was running at 3% in iowa. santorum ended up winning iowa in 2012. 15 minutes from now bob vanderplats is supposed to hold a press conference to make his announcement. the expectation, tamron, that endorsement will go to ted cruz.
