analyst bob sexton is with me in new york. peter bergen is with me from washington. pretty astounding what s happening. there is so much news yesterday. this didn t get as much news as it perhaps did globally but in a span of just a few hours, terror attacks unfolding in europe north africa the middle east and you say these three attacks represent different flash points now in this conflict against isis. how so? really the choice of targets shows you the different conflicts that are playing out now. the islamic state is deciding for example, to exacerbate sectarian tensions in the case of kuwait by trying to elevate the conflict between sunni and shiite and by forcing the government of kuwait for example, to even come in and try to calm things down. they say see, this government is in the pocket of the shiite. this is playing out in iraq playing out elsewhere across the middle east right now. that s sort of another front of that conflict which you see in the case of tunisia is attack
can t see coming. and it takes a lot longer to train a combat pilot or train a veteran soldier than it does to say, wibuild a tank. these are the issues they have to be looking at going forward. a 20% cut in army forces is not nibbling around the edges. that is a bite down the middle. that is a serious drawdown in our force strength. again, we are talking about the u.s. military. don t you think there is a call for boots on the ground, we will be ready with enough forces. let me just add one thing. i would love to hear buck s response on this. we re going from talking about having the biggest military in the history of the world, bigger than every other military, by a couple of factors, to having the biggest military in the history of the world, bigger than every other military by a couple of factors. in other words, it really does not make sense to me. we were planning on going, to having 490,000 soldiers. now they re saying 450,000 soldiers. we re still bigger than everybody, by
