During the first 6 seasons of the Modern Era, Jack Taylor established a pitching record that never has been seriously.
Going into their series at New York on Monday, the Cubs had 31 fewer wins than the Mets, with a record of 58-82 to New York's 89-52.
Yet the Cubs swept the 3 games, by scores of 5-2, 4-1 and 6-3.
.
The Cubs have played 112 games this year, meaning they have exactly 50 left to play.
They have just 1 walk-off win, on Christopher Morel's 10th-inning sacrifice fly that beat the Brewers, 4-3, on.
On Friday, the Cubs allowed 4 unearned runs while losing at San Francisco and those were the only runs scored by the Giants.
That was a long way from the most runs that the Cubs have.
