SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) The former site of a Wyoming school for troubled youth is up for sale. The asking price for the 227-acre former site of Normative Services Academy near Sheridan is $7.2 million, The Sheridan Press reports. Normative Services housed 80 students until it closed March 22. The closure followed an announcement by California officials they were removing all students from facilities run by Alabama-based Sequel Youth and Family.
The Normative Services Academy facility located west of Sheridan will soon be placed on the market according to NSI board of directors member and former Sheridan County Commissioner Bob Rolston.
According to Rolston, the 227 acre facility, which was operated by Sequel Youth and Family Services based out of Alabama, closed its doors after officials in California made the decision to withdraw its youth from Sequel Service facilities throughout the U.S.
NSI owns the property, and will now place it up for sale. The facility includes a football field and track, large resident housing which includes classrooms, a medical facility, a gymnasium and cafeteria and six homes that were used for staff housing.
Sheridan County’s Commissioners voted to approve the holiday and other closures for the coming 2021 calendar year, and also voted to approve the assignments to boards, commissions and committees for each county commissioner.
The closures are typical, including Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Memorial Day, but includes Sheridan’s traditional closure for the Sheridan WYO Rodeo.
The commissioners approved board memberships and liaison positions for various entities such as the SAWS Joint Powers Board, Critical Air Service Team, and the Lake DeSmet Advisory Board.
