OneWeb buys satellite company to give Pentagon 195Mbps Sign in with LinkedIn
11 May 2021 | Alan Burkitt-Gray OneWeb is to buy US military satellite specialist TrustComm to give it a way into US government and military contracts.
TrustComm, based in Texas, is officially a commercial satellite communications provider but it notes that it is the only one in the US “with its own network infrastructure and 24/7 managed services operations center located on a secure military base” (pictured).
OneWeb said it will offer the US Department of Defense and other government clients “a new suite of services with network speeds up to 195Mbps, lower latency, smaller and more compact multi-orbit user terminals and built-in network management tools”.

OneWeb will acquire Texas-based managed satellite communications company
TrustComm, under the terms of a definitive agreement announced by the two companies on Monday. The Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation operator said that the purpose of the acquisition was to open up channels to provide services to TrustComm’s U.S. government and enterprise clients.
Financial details of the transaction have yet to be revealed, but both parties expect to close the acquisition this year. Once completed, OneWeb said it would transform TrustComm into a proxy subsidiary, which would continue to be led by TrustComm’s current CEO Bob Roe.
The acquisition builds on an MoU the two companies signed just this past March, which named TrustComm as OneWeb’s U.S. government LEO services distribution partner. That same month, OneWeb successfully demonstrated turnkey satellite-based communications system to the DoD.
