Machinists Lodge 63 has won a second grievance settlement against Mondelēz Global-Nabisco bakery in Portland for subcontracting demolition work on a production line.
In a settlement signed Jan. 8, Mondelēz agreed to pay a total of $35,345.15 to 34 union employees impacted by the subcontacted work. The money will be divided in equal payments of $1,039.56 each.
In May 2020, most of those same employees (32) received checks for $1,046.64 to settle a separate grievance. Machinists Lodge 63 filed that grievance in April 2018 after the company used subcontractors to perform demolition work on production Line 15, which makes Ritz crackers.
The second grievance was filed in November 2018 for using subcontractors to perform demolition work on Line 14, which makes snack crackers such as Chicken in a Biskit.
