Retired Weymouth cop seeks Council seat

Retired Weymouth cop seeks Council seat Wicked Local Retired Weymouth Police Officer Edward Hancock said he wants to continue his lifelong commitment to public service by getting elected to the District 6 Town Council seat on Nov. 2. “After serving the town for over 23 years, I want to see some changes in the district, he said. Hancock retired from the police department in March 2020; his duties included 16 years of service as a K-9 officer. The National Association of Police Organizations awarded Hancock an honorable “Top Cop” honorable mention in March 2008 for his arrest of 20-year-old Ryan Bois in connection with the murder of his cousin, Joanna Mullins, in August 2007.

Weymouth s Project Care Pack hands out free items to seniors

The recipients registered for Project Care Pack in the February and March newsletters. The care packs, with helpful consumer items, humorous notes and inspirational thoughts, are intended for seniors who have been cut off from family and otherwise isolated during the pandemic year especially this past winter. After handing out packs Wednesday, distribution will continue Thursday at the monthly Grab and Go events at the Whipple Senior Center between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  Karen Johnston, director of Weymouth Elder Services, described the completion of another feel good senior project, one in a series she has been running this past year. She thanked Mayor Bob Hedlund for his consistent support and encouragement.

Somerville & Weymouth Mayors Debate Governor Baker’s Reopening Plan Share Massachusetts moved ahead with its phased reopening plan Monday, including the opening of indoor performance venues at 50% capacity and removing capacity limits on restaurants as long as distancing and time limits are still in effect. Two mayors with very different responses to the move — Bob Hedlund of Weymouth and Joe Curtatone of Somerville — joined Jim Braude to discuss.
