Henderson County Democratic Party members honked their horns, waved flags and shouted gleefully during a car parade through downtown Hendersonville on Inauguration Day, leaving no doubt they felt a huge sense of relief as the Donald J. Trump era came to an end.
The 50-vehicle caravan - which HCDP planners had kept under wraps for security reasons - began at Blue Ridge Mall just three hours after President-elect Joe Biden was sworn as the nation’s 46th president under heavy guard.
Led by a Hendersonville Police Department escort, the pop-up parade was greeted by a few thumbs-down gestures by Trump supporters and numerous enthusiastic waves from people who appeared happy to see an end to Trump s presidency.
