Former Yankees media relations director Larry Wahl dead at 67

Larry Wahl, the former media relations director for the New York Yankees, died Wednesday at his home in Pompano Beach, Fla. at the age of 67. Wahl had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018.
Wahl, whose career in sports began with an internship for the New York Jets in 1976, worked for the Yankees from 1977 to 1981. Wahl was the media relations director in 1979 and 1980, following Bob Fishel (1973-74), Marty Appel (1974-76) and Mickey Morabito (1977-78) in a quick succession.
During his tenure with the Yankees, Wahl was the team’s chief spokesperson when catcher Thurman Munson died in a plane crash in 1979.
