My expectation is it does get solved. But we dont have a lot of time and so what im suggesting to the congressional leaders is lets not do any posturing, lets not try to save face. Lets not worry about politics. Do whats right. Open the government and make sure were paying our bills. All right. Now, the house, tuesday, abandoned a lastditch effort to pass its own legislation. There have been no decisions about what exactly we will do. But were going to continue to work with our members on both sides of the aisle to try to make sure there is no issue of default and to get our government reopened. Loud explosions woke up the dove court neighborhood after a house caught fire. It started about 1 30 this morning. Firefighters say when they got there, the house and the cars in the driveway were all consumed by flames. The explosions happened near the cars. Several downed power lines made it difficult for crews to fight the fire but they kept it from spreading to other hopes. Theres a gag order so no information about whats happening in the talks but a federal mediator said there is no strike today. We are intimately involved in the negotiations. We are devoting all our efforts and energy to achieve an agreement. No questions. The talks went on for another two hours. One person not at the talks yesterday was thomas hock. He will be back today after a trip to disney land. He spoke at a conference there. Union members say his absence was helpful. They complained about him during the negotiations.
