The Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has banned the display of masquerades during the New Year celebration.
Ayade disclosed this in a statement signed by Operation Akparakwu, headed by the Permanent Secretary, State Security Advisers Office, Dr Walter Mboto, on Thursday, warning that masquerades should not dare display on the 1st of January or within the period as planned.
“This is a warning to organizers of Nyoro Ekpe 2021 in Efe Ekpe Iboku Utan, opposite Duke Town Presbyterian Church that they will be arrested and prosecuted should they go ahead with the planned public masquerade display during this period,” he stated.

Masquerade displays during the New Year celebration have been banned in Cross River even as churches are ordered to restrict cross over night activities to 10 pm.
A statement by Operation Akparakwu headed by Dr Walter Mboto, Permanent Secretary, State Security Advisers Office warned organisers of masquerades that if they dared to display on the 1st of January or within the period as planned.

Cross Over Vigil: Fix service within permitted time ― Ayade

The Cross River Governor, Prof Ben Ayade Monday night told Churches in the state to fix their Dec 31 Cross Over services within the permitted time as the 6:00 am to 10:00 pm curfew was still in place.
This was made known in a release Monday night signed by the Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Religious Matters, Rev. Fr Bob Etta and addressed to all churches in the state, Head of Blocks, Head of Churches, Religious Leaders amongst others.
