Plans To Upgrade Boating Facilities At Rhyll Ramping Up

VIC Premier Launching and retrieving boats on Phillip Island is about to get easier and safer, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s project to revitalise boating facilities at Rhyll. As part of the Labor Government’s $47.2 million investment to make recreational boating better in Victoria, the popular ramp at Rhyll will see a $4.5 million upgrade – giving boaters better access to Western Port and offshore fishing in Bass Strait. The existing boat ramp will be replaced with a three-lane ramp extending deeper into the bay, allowing for all-tide operation and making it easier to launch and retrieve vessels. The upgrade will include the construction of two new jetties and new pontoons, further increasing the ramp’s capacity. Car parking will also be upgraded to improve traffic flow and include dedicated boat preparation areas so boaters can attach tie-down straps and motor brackets out of the way.

Prize Catch Of Golden Tag Fish At Tullaroop Reservoir

VIC Premier Tullaroop Reservoir is a fishery on the rise and it’s now a favourite place to cast a line for one lucky man who landed a $10,000 golden perch. Four recreational fishers have now caught tagged fish worth $10,000 each since the Andrews Labor Government’s Golden Tag competition recommenced in June 2020. Nick Jenkins from Eltham was targeting trout at Tullaroop Reservoir when his lure was taken by a 48cm golden perch carrying a $10,000 Golden Tag. The competition began in February 2020 to encourage visitors back to Gippsland and the northeast where regional communities were in the early stages of recovering from summer bushfires.

More Tiger Trout Add To Exciting Purrumbete Fishery

VIC Premier Lake Purrumbete’s reputation as a trophy trout fishery is about to get even better with the addition of 7,000 tiger trout. The Victorian Fisheries Authorities has been stocking Lake Purrumbete since 2018 as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $35 million investment to get more people fishing, more often. The stocking of tiger trout into Lake Purrumbete over the last three years has been incredibly successful with freshwater fishers catching trout up to 2.3kg in size. Fishers have reveled in their sportfishing qualities and as a table fish for the family too. The stocking trial at Lake Purrumbete began with a request from VRFish that has seen more than 1,200 tiger trout and 7,400 cheetah trout released to date.
