The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sought improved certification for boat skippers and better regulation of the operations of non-convention vessels that operate in the inland waterways of the country.
Sanwo-Olu made the call while receiving the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr Bashir Jamoh, who was on a working visit to the governor.
He said an improved utilisation of Lagos waterways would go a long way in easing the traffic congestion on roads in the state, according to a statement titled ‘Maritime Safety: Governor Sanwo-Olu calls for strict certifcation regime’ issued by NIMASA on Wednesday.

floating in the water. we had just one of the boat captains over that we met and have been talking to the last few days to where we re staying and we re chatting with them and he said there s still people out doing this hoping against hope, really. incredibly that perhaps people could still be out there and some of these cutoff areas and isolated areas that no one has reached and that they might be able to find people alive. they have not stopped, which is really quite incredible. but it s also just terrifying to think that there could be survivors out there waiting for rescue. wow. and then, patrick, i know you were describing earlier, there really are bodies kind of strewn everywhere. it is hot there. and beyond the smell, we also know that, you know, with the decomposition of bodies whether they can locate them right away or not, i mean, that will only potentially spread diseases and sickness. i worry we re going to go from one disaster to another
