KARACHI: The disposable masks, the sanitizers and electronic thermometers all reached the designated secondary education examination centres on time along with the nervous students and invigilators though the same could not be said about the question papers on the first day of the final Matric exams here on Monday.
Many examination centres, where the morning physics exam for class 10 was to commence at 9.30am, had to wait for the question paper to reach them for over two to four hours. And then when the papers finally arrived, they were snatched from the students’ hands after a few minutes as it was revealed that the paper had been leaked on social media.

The NED University of Engineering and Technology in its 29th Senate meeting held on Saturday approved a budget of Rs3,351.138 million for the fiscal year 2021-22.
The meeting was chaired by Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Universities and Boards Nisar Khuhro and
84 NED senate members participated.
While briefing the members, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi said the budget started with a deficit of Rs167.695 million, but the varsity ended it with a surplus budget of Rs2.207 million.
He said the NED varsity had always given priority to development projects and promotion of research activities. “We have started around 183 research projects. At present, as many as 23 state-of-the-art research centres have been established. The varsity has produced 450 research papers in international publications.”

The Sindh government on Wednesday rejected the Higher Education Commission (HEC) s policy to abolish the two-year Bachelor s and Master s degree programmes.
Adviser to Chief Minister on Universities and Boards Nisar Khuhro, addressing a press conference, termed HEC s move an attack on provincial sovereignty and announced the continuation of all two-year degree programs in the province. All the universities of Sindh will continue the two-year degree programmes via the provincial autonomy under the universities act, the adviser said.

The Sindh and federal government are at odds over the Higher Education Commission s new policy on abolishing two-year bachelors programmes across the country.
Last year, the commission had announced that two-year BA and BSc degrees will no longer be taught at universities in Pakistan.
Students enrolled in two-year programmes before December 31, 2018 will be allowed to complete their BA and BSc degrees until December 2020. However, those enrolled later will not be granted their degrees, a notification by the HEC read.

Terming the HEC s move an attack on provincial sovereignty, Adviser to Chief Minister on Universities and Boards Nisar Khuhro on Wednesday announced that all of the two-year degree programmes would continue in Sindh. All the universities of Sindh will continue the two-year degree programmes via the provincial autonomy under the universities act, Khuhro said.
