Finnish sailor left off Tokyo 2020 team weeks after criminal conviction

Monday, 26 April 2021 Janne Järvinen has been left off Finland’s sailing team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, weeks after being handed a prison sentence for money laundering and drug offences. The Finnish Olympic Committee Board met on April 20 to determine who would partner Sinem Kurtbay in the Nacra 17 event at the Games. Kurtbay and Järvinen had qualified Finland for the Olympic Games at the Lanzarote International Regatta last month, which served as a European qualifier. Yet the organisation deliberated between Akseli Keskinen and Järvinen, with evidence presented in favour of each candidate. Mika Lehtimäki, director of the Finnish Olympic Committee s Top Sports Unit, said the decision to select Keskinen over Järvinen had been made on sporting merit.

The Finnish Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday that racing sailor Janne Järvinen, who has been sentenced to prison, will not represent Finland at this summer s Tokyo Olympics. However, it did not directly cite his conviction as the reason for dropping him for the team. In late March, Järvinen and his sailing partner Sinem Kurtbay secured a berth for Finland in the Nacra 17 class for the Tokyo Games. Henri Ruoste Selected to Represent Finland at the 2021 Olympic Games Thu, 03/11/2021 - 09:40 Finland The Finnish Equestrian Federation has announced that Henri Ruoste has been officially selected as their individual representative in dressage at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. the Finnish Olympic Committee s Top Sports Unit selected Ruoste as one of five new Finnish athletes for the Tokyo Olympic team. The selection was confirmed by the Board of the Olympic Committee on 9 March 2021. Aboard the Danish warmblood gelding Rossetti (by  Romanov x Midt West Ibi Light), Ruoste secured an individual spot in dressage for Finland in 2019. Ruoste has two horses as Tokyo potentials: Rossetti and his own and Jochen Arl s Belgian warmblood Kontestro DB (by Contendro x Cassini II), the only Grand Prix horse he has been competing since February 2020. Two weeks ago, Ruoste and Kontestro DB achieved a Finnish Kur record score of 81.265% at the CDI Doha.

By Daniel Smith Obituary - Sadi Emmanuel Claeys It is with great sadness that World Sailing reports the passing of World Sailing Vice-President 1994-1998, Sadi Emmanuel Claeys (BEL) at the age of 74. Sadi was an icon in Belgian sailing and had a major international presence in the sport for 50-years. He was as the Chairman of the Royal Belgian Sailing Club and Belgian Sailing, then KBYV and was also President of the Belgian 420 Class and a member of the Board of the Olympic Committee. His presence was felt on the international stage and before becoming a World Sailing Vice-President in 1994, a position he held through to 1998, he was Chair of Class Policy and Organisation Committee (now Events) Committee, a Council member and a former Presidential candidate.
