As protesters took to Ohio streets following the murder of George Floyd by a Minnesota police officer, the State Board of Education asked schools to think about whether their policies harmed minority students.
A year later, they re asking Ohio s attorney general to determine whether that resolution to condemn racism and to advance equity and opportunity for minority students went beyond the board s legal authority.
In a 14-4 vote this week, the board decided to request a formal opinion from the state s chief legal officer on whether the resolution as adopted confirms with state and federal laws and is within the legal authority of the board.
