“I worry about it all the time,” RPS Superintendent Kent Pekel said. “Right now, we are not seeing ‘the great resignation’ from Rochester Public Schools on the whole, but I hear from staff at all levels that things have never been this hard.”
"I have greatly valued my time in Rochester and my wife and I have grown to love this community," Pekel wrote via email. "I am waiting to make a final decision on applying for the permanent position as I consider two questions."
While the summary included generally optimistic reviews, Board Chairwoman Jean Marvin said the district is in the process of launching its search for a permanent superintendent.
“Personally, I’m really impressed with the leadership he’s shown,” School Board Chairwoman Jean Marvin said. “I don’t know how others perceive him. What we want to make sure is that we’re listening to a really diverse group of voices.”
