Americans i suspect you know, left it to the japanese to announce yamamotos death. The americans announced that a couple of japanese aircraft had chopped down and were given away by a whimper that they knew yamamoto was in one of them. They waited until the japanese had the big funeral in tokyo and so on and so forth whereas conversely there could have been a disit isary after midway where clever newspapers were tipping off, reporting the midway success was the result of codebreaking successes, and it is scary what that sort of stuff can do. I mean, we interest to say, if the guys on the other side were paying attention, the west was the western allied nations were fantastically lucky to get away with what they did with the codebreaking. Time for one quick question and quick answer. Alex, could you please stand. A few months ago i went to college park to the Smithsonian Institution to hear james bond, i went over there, 165 people in the museum were there, sold out. I dont like so i li

This is the day that 25 years ago president george h. W. Bush signed the nunnlugar legislation into law. Now being document fetishists, we scoured the bush library for the photographs of that extraordinary moment, and none exist. There was not a signing ceremony, which gives you a sense of the kind of mixed opinion in the Bush Administration about this Congressional Initiative in foreig

Actions and americas responss. S that is obviously an important topic, and also something that a lot of people, a lot of journalists and a lot of people in congress are talking about. So hopefully we will be able to shed some light in addition to a lot of noise which you will find elsewhere around town. This is a very distinguished group. I know that many of them if not most of you if not everybody, but i will introduce two members of the board. Chairman of the board of the center for the national interest, fourstar general, Charles Voigt who has a very distinguished experience including as deputy of navy in europe, and also in a Commission Ed panel on recommendations. And also a chairman of the board of the Agricultural Committee from kansas, and the committee on intelligence and a person with a strong Foreign Policy National Secu
Will be a good fit for the director of National Intelligence community. Now as we consider senator coates as a nomination and recognize that his top priority by admission would be the reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act section 702, i want to begin that discussion today because it is because Intelligence Community has stonewalled democrats and republicans in both this body and the other body for six years. On the information that we need to do good oversight that i have come to the floor to outline what i think this central issue is all about. I will begin my remarks mr. President by way of saying that at a time when americans are demanding policies that give them more security and more liberty, increasingly we are seeing policies, from both this body and the other body that provide less of both. A good example would be a beginning strong encryption. Weakening strong encryption is bad my security standpoint and from a liberty standpoint. When government creates
