Ivorian para-military forces harass Ghanaian Cocoa Farmers
Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have agreed to form a joint committee to find a lasting solution to security challenges faced by cocoa farmers along the southern parts of the shared border of the two countries.
Ghanaian cocoa farmers who farm across the Tano river are often accosted by Ivorian Para-military forces when they are ferrying their harvest inland.
Cocoa farmers report falling victim to the activities of the irregular Ivorian forces, who extort the farmers or seize their cocoa beans.
The agreement to form a joint committee was reached when Ghanaian officials hosted their Ivorian counterparts in a meeting at Half Assini in the Western South Region on 24th February 2021.
Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has launched the 2021 National Chocolate Week to celebrate and promote the consumption of chocolate in Ghana.
The event, which is from the 8th to the 14th of February, is packed with activities to encourage the consumption of chocolate confectionery, beverages, and chocolate-infused dishes. It is under the theme: Eat Chocolate; Stay Healthy; Grow Ghana.
Launching the celebration at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on behalf of Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minister of Information Designate, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah acknowledged the special role that cocoa and chocolate plays in the lives of Ghanaians and its impact on national development.
