MARS HILL - Wildfires have been scorching parts of Madison County lately. It s been a busy week, and it s been a busy few months, Assistant County Ranger Jeremy Graves with the North Carolina Forest Service said at the organization s Marshall office April 21.
The N.C. Forest Service responded to five fires throughout Madison County the week of April 11-18. In all, the fires burned roughly 70 acres.
On April 12, N.C. Forest Service responded to a fire on Metcalf Creek Loop that burned 5 acres. The crew was dispatched to the fire at 10:30 p.m. and remained on the scene until roughly 4:30 a.m. Mars Hill and Ebbs Chapel Fire Departments also responded to the call.
