Born in Morocco in 1959, the one and only Frank Stephenson is rightfully considered an influential automotive designer. After penning the double rear spoiler of the Ford Escort RS Cosworth, he subsequently moved to BMW AG where he penned the German automaker’s first utility vehicle.
The Bavarians presented back in 2018 at Beijing their first-ever battery electric BMW SUV – or Sports Activity Vehicle, as they prefer to call them. Their iX3 was a tame EV reinterpretation, fortunately.
It’s been a while that this feeling of unease is growing on me with most new cars. However, things reached a peak when BMW released a teaser of what we now know as the XM. That image reminded me of an Angry Birds character. Weirdly, it looked as if a pig from that game also got angry. And so did I. Car design definitely has lost its way. Big time.
BMW’s M Division is once again planning a standalone product. It will follow in the footsteps of the iconic M1 and will be dubbed the XM, just like the concept that previews it.
