Organizers behind an annual cycling event that’s drawn as many as 1,000 riders are planning a campaign in 2021 to help improve cycling safety.
Most people are unaware motorists need to provide one metre when passing cyclists, and there are few if any signs anywhere in Sarnia-Lambton about the law, said Ken MacAlpine, an organizer of the Bluewater International Granfondo.

A local surge of interest in cycling – training rides with the granfondo, for example, grew to 250 riders in 2019 from about 50 four years earlier – means there are more cyclists on the road now, he said.
