City says no to hotel on Dogwood parking lot, considers park instead

Hendersonville City Council Thursday night agreed to cease negotiations for the construction of a hotel on the Dogwood parking lot in downtown.
City Manager John Connet said staff members think its the best move since two new hotels have already been approved to be built in downtown.
A park will likely be developed there instead, he said. Council members loved the idea that Councilman Jeff Miller floated to them last week of a mini Central Park on the lot.
The proposal for the Dogwood parking lot off Church Street and Fourth Avenue was for a multi-story hotel. In March 2020, council members voted 3-2 to sell the Dogwood lot for $1,098,000 for its development.
