JOHN DAY — Malheur National Forest firefighters resumed prescribed fire operations on the Blue Mountain Ranger District, with ignitions in Soda Bear units 9C and 9G Thursday, Oct. 19, and continuing through the weekend. Approximately 405 acres are planned for treatment.
These units are located southeast of Bear Valley along Forest Road 1619. Fire personnel monitored the units for several days after completion.

The Blue Mountain Ranger District of the Malheur National Forest has replaced four gates on previously closed roads.
These gates are located on Forest System Roads 1518790, 2140000, 3670200, and 3920830. These closed roads were previously accessible due to damaged gates, which have been replaced and will be locked to motorized use on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Firefighters on the Malheur National Forest will be resuming prescribed fire operations late this week, weather conditions permitting.
