PENDLETON — Grant County’s only mathlete team, the Grant Union Protractors, placed third in their chapter completion at Blue Mountain Community College on Saturday, Feb. 17. The team is in their inaugural year as a competition team and have been meeting twice a week as a separate middle school math club since September of last year. “I wanted to start just a math club,” said Protractors head coach Anna Field. “So we have a middle school math club that meets twice a week working on various math skills but then kinda the second part of it is — we take those same students and compete in a MathCounts competition series.”

That s when they turned to the Small Business Development Center at Blue Mountain Community College. “Cindy Henderson was our adviser, and she was great to help us knock through all the things that we needed to create our business plan,” LaValle said. “I don t have a business background or anything like that, so she s been super helpful with that sort of stuff.”
