A MASTERPLAN to create 1,670 homes in Middlesbrough is back – with the promise a cherished meadow will be saved for future generations. Past versions of the Stainsby vision east of the A19 had earmarked 100 homes on Mandale Meadow – sparking concern from campaigners seeking to save the stretch. Now council chiefs have promised the meadow will be retained with a plan for the sprawling estate to become a “country park” with between 18,000 and 25,000 new trees and shrubs planted across the 140 hectare site. Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston promised to press pause on all major housing on green space in the town when he was elected in 2019.
