LOCK HAVEN Susquehanna Greenway River Towns across the region were alive with volunteers last week in celebration of Earth Day and the inaugural 2021 Susquehanna Greenway River Towns Cleanup.
Over the course of the week of April 18 25, 2021, six river towns organized events that attracted hundreds of volunteers and collectively removed thousands of pounds of trash from area parks, trails, and communities along the Susquehanna River.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. Superheroes descended upon the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Saturday.
It s all part of the AlphaGeekCon, a new event to encourage kids and adults to unleash their superpowers.
The two-day convention was created by GeekGrid and the Bloomsburg Children s Museum to celebrate all things comics. This was definitely something that was so nice for the kids to come to, be able to play in the bounce house and even meet some of their heroes. This is something she ll be definitely talking about for weeks! said Amy Kolinovsky of Bloomsburg.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. If you or your kids ever wanted to go to an event like Comic-Con in San Diego, where people dress up as their favorite superheroes and celebrate all things comic books and more, then a new event hitting our area called AlphaGeekCon could be for you this weekend in Columbia County.
Organizers want it to look and feel a lot like a comic con, which has played out for years all over the globe.
Kids get up close and personal with animals at petting zoo
The Peaceable Kingdom Petting Zoo hosted an educational, interactive experience at the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum.
The Peaceable Kingdom is a mobile, traveling petting zoo. Workers travel all over Pennsylvania, showing off wildlife and reptiles.
Kids were able to get up close and personal with pigs, an alligator, snakes, and even a baby sheep.
“It offered a great opportunity in a safe environment for kids to just get out of the house and do something fun,” said Museum Director Ginny Weibel.
Masks and social distancing were required at the event in Bloomsburg.

New Head Start Director Shawna Meiser stands eagerly in front of her new place of employment, Summit Early Learning.
LEWISTOWN – Summit Early Learning, located in Lewistown, has hired a new Head Start Director: Shawna Meiser. Her role consists of overseeing the administrative aspect of delivering the Head Start services. Head Start is a comprehensive program that targets three areas: children’s health, early learning, and family well being. Head Start looks at the whole picture, including empowering the parents with the tools that they need to help their children succeed.
Meiser has goals such as expanding program participation by families most in need in the community in order to serve the most vulnerable children and provide them services. Meiser believes it is important to spend time monitoring changing community needs, especially in light of COVID.
