Enbridge Says Great Lakes Pipeline Will Keep Running

Enbridge Inc. said it will continue to ship crude through its Line 5 pipeline that crosses the Great Lakes, despite Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer s deadline Wednesday to shut the conduit. (Bloomberg) Enbridge Inc. said it will continue to ship crude through its Line 5 pipeline that crosses the Great Lakes, despite Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s deadline Wednesday to shut the conduit. “Enbridge will continue to deliver via Line 5 safe, reliable and affordable energy to fuel the region’s economies,” the Canadian pipeline giant said in an emailed statement Wednesday. The company had previously pledged to keep the pipeline running. In November, Michigan’s governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an order that gave Enbridge until Wednesday to shut Line 5, arguing that the pipeline threatens the Great Lakes because it crosses along the bed of the Mackinac Strait. Enbridge appealed the decision and the case is now both before a federal judge and in court-ordered mediation.

Enbridge s Green Push Could Use Canadian Tax Credits, CEO Says

Robert Tuttle, Bloomberg News (Bloomberg) Enbridge Inc.’s push into new frontiers of the energy transition such as carbon capture and clean hydrogen production could use Canadian tax credits similar to those in the U.S., the company’s CEO said. North America’s biggest oil pipeline company, which for years has invested in wind and solar power projects, is also looking at gaining scale and becoming competitive in technologies such as hydrogen production using renewable electricity. To get there, it’s seeking incentives in Canada like the $35 to $50 per metric ton of credits for CO2 sequestration and storage that exist in the U.S. under Section 45Q of the Internal Revenue Code, Chief Executive Officer Al Monaco said in an interview.
