and did it anyway. cnn s ana cabrera joins me live from centennial, colorado. the part of an evidentiary trial i am most fascinated with because it is about his state of mind at the moment he opened fire, not disputed he opened fire, why he did it. what did the mental health experts say today in court? well, we ve been listening to hours of this mental health evaluation that was videotaped that happened last year with dr. william reid from the state s mental health institute and heard holmes say he was on a mission on that day in july of 2012, his mission was to shoot as many people as possible at that theater and that he picked the batman movie specifically because he knew it would be a blockbuster hit with lots of people inside. why did he want to do this? he tells the psychologist the psychiatrist that he was feeling really down, that he had been very depressed and he thought that this would help him feel a greater sense of self-worth.
