No matter how big or small a circle, any way you slice it, that ratio will always be equal to pi. The first Pi Day celebration took place in 1988 when physicist Larry Shaw noted the link between March 14 and the first three digits of the mathematical constant π (3.14). The inaugural soiree was held in San Francisco and featured a parade and fruit pies.
