Dennis Dunn, 49, was sentenced in 2019 to seven years in prison after being found guilty of kidnapping Jennifer Elliott. Dunn maintains his rights were violated due to “ineffective assistance of trial counsel” according to documents filed with the Clinton County Court of Common Pleas.

Blanchester man convicted of 2017 kidnapping to get retrial Dunn WILMINGTON A Blanchester man found guilty of kidnapping his neighbor and placing her in a pit in 2017 has been granted a release from prison pending a retrial. Dennis Dunn, 49, was granted a $10,000 signature recognizance bond by Clinton County Common Pleas Judge John W. “Tim” Rudduck while awaiting a new trial date. This comes after the court agreed to relieve Dunn’s previous attorney, James Hartke, of his duties and have evidence in the trial stricken from the record in February. A retrial date has not been scheduled as of now. Court documents indicated Hartke did not provide property access of evidence to the prosecution.

At around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Blanchester Police were called to the Gold Star restaurant at 942 E. Cherry St. on a report of a disorderly woman “trying to climb through the drive-thru window,” according to a news release from Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt. Officers said they arrived and encountered Cassondra Richardson, 28, in the parking lot. According to the restaurant owner, Richardson came into the store demanding a refund for food she claimed to have purchased on Monday.
