Liberal Talk Radio Host Ed Schultz Has Rashomon Bar Feud

Reminiscent of the movie Rashomon, liberal talk radio host Ed Schultz had an encounter in a bar which occurred in different ways depending on which witness is recounting what happened. Actually there are Rashomon versions of how this former conservative became a liberal in the first place. According to Schultz, he became converted to liberalism over baloney sandwiches with his future wife at a Salvation Army cafeteria.

Becker County Food Pantry receives $11,670 donation from the Lake Sallie and Melissa Improvement Association

Members of the Lake Sallie and Melissa Improvement Association presented an $11,670 donation to the Becker County Food Pantry on Oct. 6. The donation will be used to cover operating expenses, the pantry's executive director said.

Michael Kent Maloney, 74 years young, unexpectedly passed away outside of his Lake Sallie home on September 27th, 2022. “Mike” was born November 14th, 1947 in Hennepin County Minnesota. He moved to Detroit Lakes, and attended a country school in Lakeview Township. At the age of 12 he attended Washington Elementary where he met his lifelong partner, his Queen, Ilene, to whom he married in 1966. Together they raised three children, Elizabeth, Patrick, and Brian. The family spent most of their early years on Willow Street in Detroit Lakes. Mike and Ilene moved their family to McDonough beach on Lake Sallie, to a plot of land that was homesteaded and farmed by his grandfather. Mike embodied every aspect of a Shoreham local by raising a toast with friends at Hotel Shoreham, playing copious rounds of golf at Detroit Country Club and Saturday morning beer golf on the “Short Side”, where he would offer up six foot “gimme” putts. Lake Detroiters propose city pick up aquatic weed tab next year

A member of the Lake Detroiters Association proposed the city of Detroit Lakes should pick up the $34,000 annual cost for aquatic weed removal along Detroit Lake during a city budget work session on Aug. 18. Members of the city's budget committee heard the presentation and are expected to address the matter during their final work session at the end of the month following the presentations for each city department.
